Portable Shop Air Compressorportable shop air compressor  is one of the first of the most essential tools that you should buy for your home workshop. It has to be of good quality and have enough horsepower and air tank capacity. They come in many different shapes, sizes, and price tags. Let us talk a little about air compressors and why you may want to get one for your home workshop.

According to Wikipedia Dictionary, an air compressor is a device that converts power (using an electric motor, diesel or gasoline engine, etc.) into potential energy stored in pressurized air (i.e., compressed air). By one of several methods, an air compressor forces more and more air into a storage tank, increasing the pressure.

Air Compressor Classifications

There are 3 classifications (grades) of air compressors: Consumer grade, Professional grade and the Industrial grade. The tank (where the compressed air is stored) can be vertical or horizontal, can be a single cylinder tank or a double cylinder. It can also be a portable one with wheels or a stationary model without wheels that stays in one location.

Home (Consumer grade) air compressors are used for household projects and tasks… They include inflating tires and inflatable products, low-load air tools (like staplers, nail and brad guns), and more. Most home-use air compressors should be portable and small to carry or on wheels to move around.

Some do-it-yourself individuals with a home shop use a lot of air powered tools… In such a case they may need a bigger sized stationary tank to provide a greater amount of air power source.

My Experience

Our top Gifts team member Ray says, “I have a 25-gallon air tank compressor on wheels that provides more than enough compressed air for my various projects. I always use my air compressor when working with wood, outdoor power equipment, painting or on my car… I want to get the job done right.

Tools powered by an air compressor are lighter and last much longer than electric ones. In fact, the more use of air powered tools, the better they operate. Using air powered tools results in increased productivity and time-saving. The reason for that is because of quicker tool speed, and a tremendously reduced strain on the user.

In our opinion, there are no other tools, basic or advanced, that can match the work that air compressors do. This is especially true for those avid do-it-yourself people who spend a  lot of time in their home workshops. Bottom line, it goes without saying that having an air compressor in your home workshop will save you time, money and lots of frustration. Ray says, “Believe me, I know it to be true first hand.”
